Cycling for everyone: take it easy or work up a sweat Lahn Valley Cycle Route

The almost 250-kilometre Lahn Valley Cycle Route is as much of a highlight for leisure cyclists as it is for sport cyclists. The most well-known cycle route in the Lahn Valley follows the river through a range of different landscapes from its source to its mouth, and offers a host of interesting off-shoots, for mountain bikers for example. One of the highlights is the romantic town of Braunfels, some 55km from Marburg, with its palace from the 13th century. The town of Wetzlar, where Goethe once lived, is the ideal destination to park the bike for an hour or two and enjoy a good walk. Discover the route here.

Around Marburg Action-packed cycle tours

There’s plenty more to discover on the area’s other cycle routes. Take a trip to idyllic lakes, or recharge your batteries in one of the pretty towns, famous for their timber-framed houses. What’s more, numerous castles and palaces invite you to take a trip back in time.

We warmly recommend the following routes to our cycling guests:

Burgwald cycle route: On the 40km-long Burgwald cycle route, you visit the picturesque village of Schönstädt, with its timber-framed houses, and will discover the idyllic French meadows at the heart of the Burgwald forest

Lahn-Eder cycle route: Follow the route of the Burgwald forest railway on the Lahn-Eder cycle route through the charming Wetschaft valley, passing by traditional farming villages and the historic county town of Frankenberg

Lange-Hesse cycle route: On the Lange-Hesse cycle route, follow an historical trade route. Take in the neogothic palace of Rauischholzhausen and follow the course of the renaturalised Zwester Ohm.

Adventure cycling on the German Fairy Tale Road: Four routes with suggested stages open up the land of fairy tales, sagas and legends.
